As a person who both loves D&D and loves writing and drawing, I have been interested for a while in writing a comic series based off of D&D. It wouldn't use an officially-established setting or any officially-licensed characters, yet I'm still a bit confused on what I can and can't use. Are spells, monsters, races and subclasses outside of the SRD (and not explicitly stated to be WOTC property, like Beholders and Yuan-Ti are in the current SRD) off-limits, or could a simple name and/or flavor change fix that issue? I want to make sure that I'm complying with WOTC's rules before I start truly conceptualizing or making anything.

You want the fan content policy, not the SRD. Looking at that, flavor changes are probably fine, but you can read it for yourself.

Thanks! I checked it out, and it pretty much answered my question perfectly!
Don’t take advice from us on the boards. You want an IP attorney to explain it.
That makes sense, this is just the quickest and most efficient way to get a quick and comprehensible response. I will probably ask someone with more professional knowledge if I want to go further with this idea.
I just want to ask you that you do it for money, fame,... . And if you want to draw and write your own story, you can download apk downloader to get many good apps for you and at no cost to you at all.

I'm assuming you're trying to commercialize it and get some $$ for your efforts or are you just trying to get some recognition?

I don't really know yet. It'll probably be a long time before I actually try and publish anything, so this thread is more of a hypothetical question.
