Does anyone know how to make a homebrew spell that instead of having a DC modifier for resisting the spell, it works as a ranged spell attack that's contested by the targets AC?
Yes, but it's easier to use an existing spell as a template (like firebolt) and going from there. Even if you want to create your own from scratch, you can just look at the template to see what flags need to be set for what you want.
Well when you go to create a spell, the first thing it gives you is an option to use a template. So just pick a spell that's similar to what you want and go from there. If you wanted a spell that is similar to ice knife but does fire damage, for example, pick ice knife as the spell template and change the damage modifier to fire. Then you can change the spell description to whatever you want.

How do you do this?

Okay, Thanks!
