So, I’m making a Teifling character, they’re a Divine soul Sorcerer. And I want them to look as human as possible. I just don’t know if that’s something I can do or not. And no I don’t want to make their race human
They can have human skin tones and hair colors, but the horns, tail, pointed teeth, and solid color eyes are all non-negotiable per the race description. They very strongly Stand Out as having Infernal heritage.
Though 5e’s description takes Tiefling traits to the extreme, historically Tieflings have had quite a range of visual options. They’ll usually have a tail, but their horns can be rather small and skin colour in the range of normal human pigmentation (human tone skin colour is in 5e’s descriptors).
If you have seen the D&D movie (or at least trailers or pictures from it), the character Doric is a Tiefling - she generally looks human, with both horns and tail rather understated.
Another option, though a dark one, would be to have had your character surgically remove the horns and tail, in addition to having a human pigmentation. I mention this as a possibility - but be very careful and only do this if your group is okay with body mutilation. Many groups and players are not—the last thing you want to do is make someone uncomfortable.
Granted, Honor Among Thieves was likely also weighing how much they wanted to deal with elaborate prosthetics and body paint when they settled on Doric's design, and were definitely playing fast and loose with the setting overall. Really, this is probably a question best directed at your DM if you have a specific direction in mind for this, like a Tiefling passing as human.
