I want to make an easy to prep, easy to play one shot (about 3 hours) adventure for my level 4 group coming up. It all stemmed from wanting a reason to give out a custom magic item (coming soon to a homebrew magic item database near you). All I know is that I want to use bear based enemies and have the reward be "Mask of the Brown Bear" (it turns you into a Brown Bear).
The party is made up of 3 level 4 characters: Wizard, Fighter and Paladin.

Bear-based enemies seems to lead towards forest or mountain encounters that feature Bears, Were-Bears, and maybe some sort of fey creatures or druids.
So, some questions:
What's the conflict?
Start there and maybe we can help work something out with you.
I really liked the idea of it being a werebear thing, was just worried about all of its immunities for my poor level 4s.
I also like the idea that the bears are going around causing (non-violent) trouble, like getting into people's food stores or something.
Maybe something like there's a werebear living in a nearby forest and they have a small army of bears to find food for them?
Sure. Now all you have to do is develop a starting location.
Ever see that movie with John Candy and Dan Aykroyd where they stay in a cabin in the woods? It's got a great bear attack scene!
My point being... maybe everyone is on vacation and they have to make it till dawn in an old cabin in the woods. :D
