Hi all! I am fairly new to D&D as a player and DM, but with a bit of play time under my belt I am ready to dig in some more. I was looking at the PHB, DMG, and MM bundle but was curious if DDB will continue to support "legacy" 5E in terms of the tools like the Character Builder. I've skimmed a few threads that discuss some of the changes, but haven't been able to see if there's any news on whether DDB will continue to provide an option to build characters using the "legacy" options (or if they will push users towards the new books by only allowing "2024" builds). Any help is greatly appreciated!
This has been asked multiple times already, and the answer is still the same: no one knows what will happen for sure completely. You will have to wait like everyone else for Wizards to announce something.
Based on what has happened with VGTM and MTOF due to the release of MP:MOTM, it is likely that Beyond will continue to support PHB, MM, and DMG, but the original core three will no longer be for sale when the new versions become available.
I highly doubt Beyond will stop supporting the original core three, since people have paid for them. When WGTE was updated, people were unhappy that the original version they purchased was no longer available and they were forced to use the updated version. Most people seem to rather have the option to pay twice so they can keep the old content and use the new updated one, and that includes me.
