So, I was just watching one of the "leaked" videos based around the new 2024 Tiefling Species. How they get three new legacies and such. I've also seen information get released about the new Goliath and how there will be options linked to their Giant heritage, which I can only assume will be translated into legacies too.
However, unlike with subraces in previous books, legacies aren't listed in the 2024 PHB's content preview's as part of the what's in there. We only get 10 species listed. So, I'm curious on if anyone else has gathered any other information, has any other insights, or speculations, on the other legacies.
I'm curious on just how many we're getting.
(For those interested, the tiefling video is below)
Some subraces got absorbed into the base species such as the dwarves and Halflings. Other species that will have lineages (assuming this very old UA made it all the way into print) are elves and gnomes. Of course dragonborn will still have their ancestry based on a dragon. Ardling got cut so don't pay any attention to that.
from what i been told they did away with half elf and half orc and to me that sucks i loved playing a half elf
They did and they didn't.
They're no longer have them as distinct species.
However, in the playtest, they had a rule so that you could play any interspecies offspring you wanted. It's simple, for good reason: pick one ancestor, use their species traits, but adjust your appearance as you wish.
So, to play a half-elf much like the ones in 5e2014, you just take elven traits. Except for the extra stat bonus, you are now essentially there. If you want something different, talk to your DM about homebrewing.
And if you want to play orc/elf, or elf/tiefling, or plasmoid/autognome, you can.
Yeah but then you have to pick your background based on stat optimization and I’m not looking forward to that. Mine is very specific to my character and I don’t want to change who my character is based around it.

Yeah, in playtest they had roll-your-own backgrounds as a default, and I do not understand why they dropped it. (It may have gone badly with new-player focus-group testing, I suppose.)
However, it is going to be an option in the DMG as I understand it, so you can talk to your DM.

Interesting. I mean, I guess at least being able to customize it means I’m not assigning a different story necessarily. I guess that’s all I can do as you said. Sounds like he’s still working on his next big adventure and I doubt he’s waiting for the new edition since he’s bought books for it!
Jeremy said in a recent interview, that if an option appears in the new book. You use that version. If an option, ie half elf or half orc, dont appear in the new book. You can use the version in a different book. So assuming your DM still allows half elves, that are still a viable option.

Assuming the UA versions go live, we'll see the following:
The rest (Human, Halfling, Dwarf, Orc) don't have any "modes" to choose from IIRC.

So... no more Half Elf +2/+1/+1?
Completely worthless update.
2014 5E mostly
3.5 maybe.
The rule only applies to humanoids so that last one is out.
Half-elf and Mountain Dwarf stat bonuses were only used for munchkinry. Glad that's gone.
Bah. They don't appreciate fun.
Yes. Now you'll only play a half-elf because you want to play a half-elf. Not because it gives you more plusses.
This is an improvement.
