My (F24) DM (M25) made plans to be out of town this weekend and has had these plans for the past few months. So Me and my other friends (not in the d&d group) planned a trip for the same weekend knowing my d&d group wasn't playing. But today, the today (the day before our group plays) they sent a message saying just kidding we are playing because their plans got canceled last minute.
I argued that it wasn't fair to the party to make this decision last minute but the DM and another player said that it was fine because it wasn't my campaign. https://vshare****/
Am I in the wrong for being upset for the way they treated the situation?
No, and that's not specifically a DM thing. If someone tells you they won't be available on some day for anything, they can't expect you to NOT make other plans for that day, and they certainly can't expect you to drop said plans last minute for the thing you were originally told wasn't going to happen.
Definitely not a cool move on the DM's part. If the DM's plans got cancelled, they can ask if everybody is free to play, which is fine but saying it's back on without checking is bad and shows a lack of respect from the DM of other people's time. What my own group would do is ask and if not everybody could then make it, we just do something else. Usually a computer game (i.e. path of exile, baldur's gate 3, etc) or watching a movie.

Another Reddit special.
