. Are there any soonest plans to publish spell cards for the 2024 rules? Is that something that comes later alongside starter kits? Do we need to make our own? Thanks.
The spell cards weren't made by WotC but at least mine were by Gale Force 9 instead. You'd have to ask them, I imagine.
Given that they didn't do MotM, I'm not holding my breath for 2024e.

For the time being stock up on index cards - your making your own until at least late 2025 by the looks of what has been announced as coming next year.

Since they're third-party, they won't necessarily appear on WotC's schedule.
That said, there's no indication on their site that Gale Force 9 are still doing them.
It seems likely that one can find generators or templates to print one's own out there on the web.
No, you and Kyndral69 are both right. The 5e spellbook cards used to be made by Galeforce 9, but WotC took over all of them sometime last year. The packaging is subtly different now - the easiest tell is if it says "Age 12+" in white text in the upper corner (GF9) or if it just says "12+" in dark text in a gray circle (WotC). They're the exact same products, but the revised boxes have the new Wizards logo instead of the old one that said "licensed product," way less copyright text near the barcode, and no mention of Galeforce 9 anywhere. I think the barcode numbers even changed.
As far as whether there will be 2024 cards, that WotC makes the cards now might be a good sign, but there's been no word yet.

If all that’s true it would seem a strange business decision to take over the product rights from GF9 (presumably at a cost) if they don’t intend to do anything new with them

If that's the case, they haven't changed their advertising picture, which would be odd. It's very blurry, but you can see in the second picture, in the white box on the bottom of the box, it starts "Gale Force Nine...".

My prediction is WotC may not allow Gale Force Nine (maker of the old spell book cards) access ahead of time, assuming they have enough trouble withholdong keaks as it is.
But let's say right after release GF 9 accepted the license deal, hoping royalties didn't go up. They did sell VERY well, running out at US distribution frequently, so this would be an easy profit for GF 9 considering how many books sold already.
I alone spent over a month typing up my own free to share cards, and only got as far as maybe 1/4th of the handbook.
So I predict if they copy and paste everything from the PDF, spend 1-3 months proofing it, then 1-2 months proofing with the overseas manufacturer, then 6-8 months to sail from China to the US (unless the cards are made in the US), my guess is a fall 2025 GF 9 release.
Assuming GF9 considers this a priority as I don't see much of their other products selling as fast as their spellbook cards.
I keep hoping I'm going to hear news on this front. It makes play go much faster, but I have low vision, so typing it out isn't an option, and there's no way my players are going to do it. In thus universe, anyway
Someone in the industry informed me Gale Force 9 appeared to have lost the rights to making the popular line of spellbook cards. They said Wizkids appears to have the rights now. Unfortunately I have not seen anything, so they may not exist until late 2025 or 2026.
They didn't get all of the 5e 14 stuff done, doubt they will continue, tis a shame for the people that play pencil & paper at physical tables.I have 90+% of the cards made, guess that is where I stop buying books, good news is I have decades of 1st party content with no reason to buy more especially considering the direction the game is heading. My only regret is spending money on this platform. If wizbro would only let us sell our accounts, sigh!
GF9 lost the rights to produce 5th edition stuff a few years ago. Dont know the details but there were a few lawsuits where gf9 sued wotc for breach of contracts and some other stuff. They do not even have D&D stuff linked on their website anymore
Considering that the new starter set will have some spell cards, what do you think the odds are for them to release full sets as a new product in the coming months?
I wouldn't like to bet - it could be a sign that they're going to, it could mean nothing. It depends on what it means by "spell cards" - the Essentials Kit came with "spell cards", but those had no relation to the GF9 ones. Just cheap cardboard pushout things. If that's what they are, then their inclusion means nothing regarding proper and nice cards like the GF9 ones.

Thanks! I didn't know they were 3rd party!
I'm looking at a box of Spell Cards and what is in my hand absolutely was made by WoTC. There is no mention of Gale Force 9 anywhere on the box.
I assume you are using these:

I know there are unofficial options. But sometimes they turn out less than ideal
I would also be interested in martial feat and barbarian power cards for my barbarian player. I think it would help keep her straight

Doesn't surprise me: that was my first guess when I saw that the cards were being printed by WotC instead of GF9.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
