I am still trying to discern some of the updated 2024 rules. Thank you in advance for help.
info: Ranger (Fey Wanderer) - level 5 (two-weapon fighting style) equipped with Short Sword + Scimitar (dex build using finesse/light weapons)
Please let me know if I have these attack sequences correct:
- Round One -
Bonus Action = Hunter's Mark
Attack Action = Short Sword + Scimitar(nick)
Attack Action = Short Sword (extra attack from 5th level)
Assuming all attacks hit, damage total would be: {3x(1d6+Dex) + 3x(1d6) from Hunter's Mark + 1d4 for Dreadful Strike}. (Note - my attack with Scimitar would be made with advantage because of the previous short sword hit - Vex)
- Round Two -
Attack Action = Short Sword + Scimitar(nick)
Attack Action = Short Sword (extra attack from 5th level)
Bonus Action = Attack with Scimitar (Two-weapon fighting with Light weapons)
Assuming all weapons hit and Hunter's Mark is still active, damage total would be: {4x(1d6+Dex) + 4x(1d6) from Hunter's Mark + 1d4 for Dreadful Strike}. (Note - both my Scimitar attacks would be made with advantage because of the previous short sword hits - Vex)
Nick replaces your BA attack, so the second (Round Two) sequence is incorrect UNLESS you have the Dual Wielder feat, which Crawford has clarified is intended to give you an BA attack that stacks with Nick as long as your BA is free.
Assuming you grabbed Dual Wielder at 4th level, then yes, the sequence above is correct. (Note that if you started with 17 Dex rather than 16, Dual Wielder at 4th will also get you more damage overall by raising your Dex to 18.
Thank you for clarification (and Crawford reference regarding Nick & DW feat)
To clarify - if I didn't have DW feat, I would still have a free Bonus Action, I just couldn't use it to attack?
You couldn't use it for your TWF off-hand attack, no (because you already used that via Nick.) But you could use it for anything else, such as moving Hunter's Mark, or casting Ensnaring Strike.

Am I calculating all this correctly?

Thanks again,
Just to be clear: IF I cast Ensnaring Strike, I would lose my Hunter's Mark (assuming it was still active) as both are concentration spells?
Correct you loose Concentration on an effect the moment you start casting a spell or other effect that requires Concentration.
