As a player I mean. It's a thought I had as I recently realized that I scroll through LFP postings a lot, even though I'm already in two active campaigns. By no means is it because I'm not enjoying the campaigns—I love them to death. I think the issue stems from wanting to play D&D more. Currently, I'm only able to play on weekends so for 5 entire days, I have no D&D to play. This might be such a trivial issue but I just wanted to ask.
The question itself isn't phrased the best. You can be in as many campaigns as you want—rather the question should be, how many campaigns is it manageable to be in? I'm sure this varies between players but I wanted to hear other peoples' opinions.
You're aware this is completely and utterly subjective, right?
I'm a parent with a full time job and I write for a living and I have other hobbies, so I can reasonably only participate in one campaign. However someone with more free time and fewer commitments could likely play a lot more. I know people who play nearly every day because they have the time for it.
The simple answer is as many as you feel like being in. Now a lot depends on your situation.if you are working, have a family and a lot of responsibilities and or hobbies your not going to have much time for D&D games whether in person or electronically. If your a student or otherwise have a lot of free time then you could be playing in a lot more games.
Yeah, it entirely depends on how often you can schedule a (relatively) uninterrupted 3+ hour block of time.
And also how many groups of people you can find who can do the same, on at least a semi-regular schedule.
Back when I was in college, only a couple of years ago, really, it was pretty easy. Nowadays, less so. I probably could play more than I do, but there's only so many hours in a week, and I also want to do other things.
Apart from scheduling time, you also have to consider cognitive load - the fewer characters you have, the more focus and immersion you can have in each one. How many campaigns you can be in without suffering depends on your personal ability as well as your tolerance - if all you're doing is hack 'n' slash, then you don't need to be all that engaged and immersed in the characters, so you can go wild. If you're playing really deep RP and really engaging with the characters...one might be your limit or you'll start melding characters together or just not be able to get such a profound connection with them.
It's completely subjective. I've found that the number of campaigns a player is noticeably affects their engagement and immersion - even a second campaign is noticeable.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
I’m currently playing in one weekly game and one game every other week, plus running three other fortnightly games. As others have said it’s entirely up to the individual because I know people who play in one game every other week and can barely keep track of that one while others play in multiple games with the same people and can keep everything straight in their heads
Job with a lot of business travel time, wife that is not into gaming at all, hiking, reading, watching stuff together, riding my motorcycle, playing games on PC, lot of trevelling with my wife, so one single campaign once every second week.
As many said, depends extremely on your personal preference and available time and groups.
How much time do you have for campaigns without sacrificing other important factors of life? That is basically the answer and that answer is going to vary from person to person but I'd always recommend not letting gaming take over your life be that tabletop or video game, they are fun entertainment but you still got to work/study, socialise (tho campaigns do contribute to this), sleep, eat(& drink) and maintain your health. Basically you CAN spend as much time as you want playing campaigns but you should only spend as much as that it does not disrupt anything else major in life.

I am currently in 7 games. I DM two of them (one is for 8 year olds though).
