I'm looking for suggestions of species that would be a good choice for Changeling personae. Some have obvious problems. Changelings don't have Darkvision so trying to pass as a species that does is likely to reveal the deception. Kenku is a good fit, as the Changeling ability to change their voice can emulate most of what Kenku Mimicry does. Other useful options would either have species abilities without obvious effects or that could be emulated with Shapechanger or with a class ability.
They're common in most campaign settings and lack any abilities that the changeling would have difficulty duplicating: no darkvision, no innate spellcasting or resistance to elemental damage, no powerful build, no flashy and overt abilities.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

Humans and halflings are the most obvious choices.
