Does anyone use a custom homebrew on training exotic animals/beasts to just use as a mount? I'm old school where we use to have animal handling and animal training. Just curious if there's any DMs out there that incorporate any homebrew rules or what to use for time table to train the animal to ride. etc etc.. thank you
If it were me, I’d use xanathers rules for getting proficiency in a new tool or language. Only the mount is the one doing the learning. So if someone has the time to train it for however many weeks, it could now accept a rider. Either the characters can do it if they have the time and proficiency, or they can hire someone and pick up their newly trained mount after the time passes.
I had a goblin who rode a giant ape. Perhaps unsurprisingly, that turned out to be wildly OP.

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
