I had one player run a Blood Hunter in a campaign that lasted until level 20. The player really enjoyed it, so that is a solid endorsement. From my side of the table, the class had some fun tools and tricks that could be tactically used for some effective combat measures. Most importantly, it felt distinct from other classes, so did not just feel like a worse version of something existing.
If you are looking to play it, it seems like a decent enough option, with some flash, while not being as flashy as a true caster.
I played a Lycan Blood Hunter up to I believe level 11 a few years back. It was a blast honestly. There was a bit of a trade for some serious power in that it took two or three rounds to get all the abilities lined up but once you did, the BH was a heavy single target blaster. Lighter fights that end quickly aren't where the Lycan BH really shines, but those are fun too. You just need to make decisions on what abilities you want to use during those fights. The MVP of longer battles for sure.
I really enjoy playing the blood hunter. The unique mechanic of sacrificing hp is very engaging in combat, and it actually feels unique from all other classes.

how good is blood hunter
Good at what exactly? As the expression goes, you don't judge a fish on its ability to ride a bike.
