A big brainderped shame. Was hoping Artificer could be the third halfcaster/ martial along with Ranger and Paladin.
Summary:
Halfcasters/ martials: Paladin, Ranger
Full Martials: Barbarian, Fighter, Monk, Rogue
Full Spellcasters: Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
* some argue Warlocks are halfcasters/ martials due to higher HP and armor etc. I disagree. Majority of what makes a spellcaster is all over the Warlock
I mean, if your dm is stingy with magic items artificer is a way to get a bag of holding near the start of the campaign.
On the other hand, find a better dm is going to make you a million times happier than find ways to deal with a stingy dm.
If you want dps artificer, its probably an artillerist if thr campaign goes past level 11. At 11, an artillerist can put a level3 fireball in the spell storing item and cast it 10 times. That is a TON of damage per long rest. Up to that point, its you and your gun turret doing 3 attacks per turn, which isnt shabby. Youll need 14 dex and medium armor and shield for a decent ac. But its workable. Id probably plan on doing ranged attacks and stay out of thr fray.
A good dex will work well with the "gloved of thievery' plans you can buildat level 6. +5 to all sleight of hands checks so you can didable traps easily. And the sentinel shield plans let you roll perception with advantagr, so youre better at spotting traps.
Its not a bad build. Its just that i too imagined my character.building items and giving thrm to the party, but it doesnt work like that.
