Back in 'ye'old days' Gary Gygax, back in 1979 at the end of the first Dungeon Master's Guide, on page 1979, p. 224 put forth Appendix N. It was a list of suggested reading and resources for DMs to consider and enjoy. Things he had drawn upon to develop the game we all enjoy.
For reasons of copy protection I will not repost the entity but in the spirit of his thought I wanted to start a Revised Appendix N;
A list of Movies, Podcasts, Comics, Games, and yes even books, that inspire our games/DM'ing.
Please, for clarity's sake, search to see if your suggestion is already listed, and if there "vote" the comment up. For those not already list, please, one source(or series) per post so that we can "upvote" the most popular ones separately.
Thank you to all that contribute, and vote (ie. "Like") a comment/source.
Starting off: Patrick Rothfuss, The Kingkiller Chronicles (link)
When he's not playing with Chris Perkins during Acquisition Incorporated games, Rothfuss apparently wrote...
The Kingkiller Chronicles are an set of adventures in which the protagonist hones his magical power, runs errands and adventures and learns of a darker sinster threat to the world that has existed ... perhaps for eons.
The story, for me highlights a well defined set of cause and effect magical abilities and how you could develop a University as a base for a adventures for a small party of adventurers.
