I was reading up on the new Workbooks that are being released in May to support the '24 (5.5) Sourcebooks, and was curious about if any of you have heard if these will be released with an Alternate Cover Variant?
Breathe, dragons; sing of the First World, forged out of chaos and painted with beauty. Sing of Bahamut, the Platinum, molding the shape of the mountains and rivers; Sing too of Chromatic Tiamat, painting all over the infinite canvas. Partnered, they woke in the darkness; partnered, they labored in acts of creation.
I kind of figured as much as these are smaller books and will only run $26 each.
I like the collectable aspect of the Alternate Covers, so I wanted to make sure before I made a plan to pick up the standard cover versions :)
Separate, but somewhat related question that I thought of while typing this response... Will these be released early in LGS' like standard books, or will they only have a 'standard' release everywhere?
I re-reviewed the 2026 Calendar ReleasePost, and don't see these books even listed there :(
Cheers!

It's weird that books listed as official companions for the 2024 PHB and DMG aren't game books.
I know the linked article says they’re “official” but it also says the publisher is someone other than WotC. I wonder if official just means they’re complying with the OGL.
I'd feel lied to if that were the case. I imagine it's more that they're the endorsed ones, done on behalf of WotC.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
As an official companion to the revised and expanded Player’s Handbook, this workbook is a helpful resource for embracing D&D’s new core rulebooks. There’s never been a better time to gather your party and begin your adventures!
This is what it says on Amazon. I am not say that they are official or anything, I am just pointing out how they are being advertised.

Oh, I didn’t mean you were wrong. But there’s official, like the Eberron expansion WotC recently published, and there’s official like the eberron expansion Keith Baker recently wrote.
Given that it's published by Penguin Random House, 'official' presumably means "Produced under the terms of an agreement with WotC, which includes the right to call it official".

Well of course. It is still strange to advertise it as the "The official companion to the PHB/DMG" That carries a lot of weight.
I don't think that's strange. They're official products by dint of licensing agreements. They're companions to the new PHB and DMG. Hence, they're official companions to the PHB and DMG.
I think "official companion" is best understood to mean "These books are licensed by WotC and can be used in conjunction with the game books to add to your D&D experience, while not being actual game books themselves" That's why they're companions and not supplements
Greetings D&D Beyond and Community,

This is one of the articles I was reading:

No, because they're not game books. Alternate covers are something specific to LGS' for game books

Greetings Davyd,
Thank you for the info and response!

They're not game books, so there's no reason to anticipate a release pattern that follows game books.
Also you don't need to reply like you're responding to a work email 🤣🤣🤣

Oh come on, it’s adorable that he always says “greetings” at the start of a post
I dunno, I always feel like I'm about to be asked about those TPS reports being done by the end of day LMAO

Now that you brought it up, I’m going to have to ask you to go ahead and come in Saturday to finish those.
