Looking for some advice as I make a drunken-monk style character. All of their attacks will look like accidentally bumping into people.
I'm hoping to homebrew some rules that when I approach an enemy I can use persuade, intimidate, etc. as a bonus action to distract them before I make an attack. (Giving me attack advantage?)
Think of a spy movie where the hero asks the henchman, “do you have the time?” And as they check their watch, the hero attacks. except more drunk and haphazard.
First, ask your DM if they're okay with you homebrew your own special variants to combat rules. If they agree, workshop it out with them. That said, on the one hand it's not really that desirable for a Monk to fill out their Bonus Action with something like this, and I'd expect most DMs to be leery of letting you homebrew in additional ways to get advantage.
As Ace says it's something you need to discuss with your DM, there's a very good chance they'll just say no. Also giving up your Bonus Action to gain advantage doesn't make much sense for a Monk, it means you're giving up an extra unarmed attack (two extra attacks with Flurry of Blows) and in all ways you're just better off making those extra attacks. The chances of hitting with three attacks is better than the chances of hitting once with advantage and those extra attacks will do extra damage that you wouldn't get from the one attack with advantage.
If DM permit you could homebrew a Class Feature along the lines of:
Level 3: Unsteady Aim
As a Bonus Action, you give yourself Advantage on your next attack roll on the current turn. You can use this feature only if you haven’t moved during this turn, and after you use it, your Speed is 0 until the end of the current turn.

how would you approach this idea?

If it's at the start of combat, that seems reasonable. I feel like not just Assassins should be able to capitalize on unsuspecting opponents.
I just want to throw out there drunken monk is already a thing in the 2014 rules. Have you looked at that?

Granted, there’s a reason that appears on the class that only ever makes a single attack with their Action.
Its a suggestion reflicting what level a Rogue Feature get to gain Advantage at the cost of a Bonus Action and movement restriction.
It can be a starting point comparison worth consideration.
I know, just pointing out some context to it.
