I hate they keep saying it's the first actual play from WotC... Dice Camera Action wasn't the first, but 10 years ago it served this exact purpose, selling you new modules. Not only that, Chris Perkins was the DM.
There was also the short lives Heroes of the Vale with Mike Mearls with Nenthir Vale. I still wonder if any plan related to that setting got canned when Mearls got sidelinned.
And there's Acquisition Inc. But I don't know if counts or not.
I can't find any official claims it's the "first" WotC live play, just that this is the first campaign of presumably many. I checked the official D&D page, as well as articles on DMAP on D&D Beyond.
Where are you seeing this claim?
Also Acquisitions Inc wasn't a WotC AP, it was Penny Arcade.
The reason Dice! Camera! Action! is not recognized is due to LA TTRPG drama(In other news, water feels wet to the touch) [REDACTED]
Acquisitions Inc is a genuine rights MESS, with Hasbro and Penny Arcade not liking to talk about who owns it.
This is the first one w/o anyone who WotC(Rightfully or wrongfully) doesn't want tarnishing their brand.
Acq Inc switching to Daggerheart for their latest show pretty cleanly shows it’s not Hasbro’s show even if their design head was the DM. Perkins moves to Critical Role and his live play moved with him
OP, I think the people calling it "The first actual play" are from within the community and not the official announcements. I also think they are doing it out of not knowing of the other material's existence, so I wouldn't take Umbridge with it either.
It did come off as a Perkins passion project most of the time and not a lot of company resources were poured into the average episode. Just seemed to be an OBS set up and Perkins in a breakroom/studyroom with a computer. DMAP seems to have more of a budget, so even if someone knew, I could see them thinking "yeah but DMAP is OFFICAL and not just something Perkins does on breaks" to assume that DMAP is the first.

I think this is an AI slop amalgamation that people keep repeating.
That spirit is at the heart of Dungeon Masters, the new official D&D actual play anthology series where electrifying players turn official game content into a story worth remembering.
and
A New Official D&D Actual Play Begins
Dungeon Masters' first campaign combines a gripping actual play set in Ravenloft with a Play-Along Pack that lets fans go deeper into the adventure and the world behind the screen.
But when you search "dungeon masters actual play first official" the AI slop gets:
Dungeon Masters is the first official Dungeons & Dragons actual play anthology series produced by Wizards of the Coast. The show brings official game content to life, with episodes followed by playable encounters. [1, 2, 3]
Which is wrong.
If you search for "dungeon masters actual play not first official" it happily agrees with you but links to other non-WOTC articles.

Acquisition inc were one of the first “actual play”groups to get popular. They were even around well before critical role.
Maybe I’m biased because chris perkins is my favorite dm but id recommend checking those out.
Their older videos are audio only but they transitioned to video recording after a bit.
Plus they do live shows at PAX every year. Ive gone to see them play in person quite a few times

The offiical post talks about the 'first campaign', but not that it's the first official actual play: https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/2147-dungeon-masters-the-new-d-d-actual-play
