And, frankly, being the default D&D setting has not been good for the FR in a narrative sense. When you're the default setting, everything gets stapled on, and the setting's identity (never that strong to begin with -- it's always been very "generic fantasy setting" to me) gets buried.
Being a kitchen sink IS a big part of FR's identity though. BG3 had shades of stuff from both Spelljammer and Planescape for a reason, and benefited from it.
And I doubt FR would have become the de facto default if it wasn’t such a kitchen sink setting. Makes it so much easier to just heap stuff on it than a setting with a more defined personality

The term I'd use for those other settings is "narrower." FR actually has plenty of definition - it's just linked to regions, much like Golarion (another kitchen sink). You want vanilla heroic fantasy, Sword Coast or Cormyr. You want political intrigue, Waterdeep or Amn. You want wilderness exploration and survival, head to Chult or the Anauroch or Icewind Dale. You want dark fantasy / horror, go to Thay or the Moonshaes. And so on.
It looks like a functional hack-and-slasher/blaster to me. A lot will depend on how interesting the world is to explore or varied the fights are, which we can't tell from this vertical slice. If it has interesting combat and traversal challenges like Jedi Survivor then it'll do well, if it ends up with a whole lot of nothing to commute through like Forspoken it will do poorly.
For me personally, I'm less interested in the gameplay than I am in the lore. We already know Tasha will be the MC's patron, so I'm curious about where this is set (I'm assuming FR) and when, as well as who else might pop up (e.g. Minsc and Boo, maybe some of the BG3 crew, or some of the other notables like Elminster etc.)
ENworld are reporting its Drakov from Ravenloft which surprised me, I was sure it would be FR
That would make sense, as that npc in the trailer said something like "look who the mists have dragged in this time" when you first show up.
But pre-vis is to communicate intent. specifics might change, but the general idea usually won’t. It could become a Civ style tame in the end; but saying Alpha wouldn’t explain that disparity in the final game

(Didn't mean to hijack the original poster's thread, we should probably get back on topic)
Playing D&D since 1982
Have played every version of the game since Basic (original Red Box Set), except that abomination sometimes called 4e.
