I just noticed the design where, as you scroll through a digital adventure and pass a map, a little version of that map follows you down the page, specifically as I ran Library of Lethchauntos.
Whoever came up with that deserves some credit. It is a really small UX feature, but it makes navigating an adventure much easier. I don’t have to constantly scroll back up to find the map I’m currently reading about, and it makes the relationship between the text and the map much clearer.
WOTC_Randy: Thank you for noticing! Huuuuge shout out to Preston on our team! It's a feature that we experimented with on titles like Abomination Vaults and Adventures in Faerûn. We're not able to include this on all titles, but if it's something that you'd like to see more of, please let us know! Noted on wanting to see this on some older titles and on the mobile app. Again, great feedback to see how we can make more of this stuff happen.
WOTC_Randy: Just to confirm what everyone else has stated, you'll get 2-weeks early access with a Master tier subscription. So if you're an active Master tier subscriber, you should be able to access it on Sep 1st (in the evening in the UK). Pre-ordering the Ultimate Bundle also gives you some extra goodies!
Also, it's good to remind everyone that it's not automatic, so someone has to wake up and pish the button, so u/latiajacquise doesn't have to dodge more yelling
LaTiaJacquise: what is community management except playing dodgeball with everyone's concerns (said positively) :)
WOTC_Randy: Yes, the team and I typically start pushing buttons early in the morning Pacific time (coffee in hand!), but sometimes we have to move the window around due to other features rolling out, maintenance, etc.
A follow on answer from the AMA about Digital Codes
WOTC_LauraT: Honestly, the size of the US market, and the wide variety of business practices among FLGS. There isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. All I can really say is that this is on our minds and if we have more to share, it will be easy to find.
dang, see i am using maps with no subscription. i get that the material i bought with dnd beyond far exceeds an annual master tier but im still trying to last as long as possible without feeding corporate greed
WOTC_Zac: Hi! No greed here. :) Just trying to pay the costs of servers and the salaries of a bunch of engineers and designers and content specialists (cough and PM's cough) who love D&D and want to build more tools to help more people play.
Any chance of modifying the tokens (or nameplates) to show if they are under the effects of a condition without individual clicking?
WOTC_Zac: Yep! That's coming soon. We wanted to tackle a bunch of the great feedback and suggestions we got on optimizing the size and behavior of the token menu first.
Could it be possible to get some sort of description pop up when hovering over reveals? I’m running Curse of Strahd and it can sometimes be hard to find the right image in a hurry when the names of the files don’t match their descriptions.
WOTC_Zac: The biggest challenge with that is that these images were all meant for print, and pulled out of our books. Many didn't have titles or even captions.
I do agree though we can present them better - especially when using the search feature. We definitely haven't nailed the usability on these.
Still no details on the sheets and way the data interacts with each other. As well as no info on improved or new homebrew creation. Guess we just gotta keep waiting until the flashy stuff is done first.
WOTC_Zac: The new game engine is what will power a new character sheet! New homebrew is also unlocked by new game engine!
I think its a must for all official release since 2014 at least. So many good adventure could benefit from that + the addition of the quick play maps. Those feature have been created, they need to implement them onto those adventure. I am sure its not a quick task, but would make those older adventure more desirable to purchase in my opinion.
If i am buying a digital adventure, I want all the tools that can help me prep the game and actually make me spend more time playing the game.
But yes the the upcoming books, but also please do not forget everybody who purchase older adventures
WOTC_Zac: It is unlikely we will support our entire back catalogue - that's a lot of adventures, many of which don't get any sales - let alone play - anymore.
Of course, adding value to old adventures could drive more interest in them, but like all things, we have to prioritize.
We'll likely focus on items in the back catalogue that are still getting a lot of play, then focus our resources on preppifying as much of the new content coming out as we reasonably can.
I suspect that AI will do a lot of the heavy lifting of importing the old content. Yes, I know, we hate AI. But it would probably be very good at this. And we're not asking it to generate new content, so I feel like this is a good task for AI.
WOTC_Zac: We will not be generating scene prep content with AI.
I am super excited for this. Having the room information and narration right there reduces having to switch between the map and the book or my notes. Love it.
