barbarian as a base will be weird for a casting class who shoots lighting and i want to shoot some lightining. it makes for sense for enhance but how you gonna square a ranged blaster with a barb?
Rage doesn't work with casting spells, but you could make a sorcerer and call it a barbarian or a sorcerer/fighter and play it like a barbarian. Tempest Clerics get lightning-like abilities, but again, they don't work with rage.

Hate to break it to you but these books take a couple of years to write. They are not going to change a major thing like a class two weeks before it hits shops. It’s already printed and sitting in a warehouse
Yeah it's definitely too late now, the book has been printed and several youtubers even have an advance copy already.
But since most if not all of us seem to agree that Druid is a better choice for Ele/Resto than Barbarian, it shouldn't be too difficult to take the Druid class and swap out Wild Shape for that totem feature the Shambarian is getting.
Definitely seems unfortunate they went the barbarian route for elemental and restoration shaman. If you're looking for an alternative I've always really liked laserllama's shaman class. On the 2nd of the links you'll find his elementalist subclass which for me hits the WoW elemental shaman feel quite well.
Is there reason to believe the subclass they made for this build won't provide a ranged attack?
Because that is highly atypical for barbarians, I can see why they would think it.

I would assume some kind of ranged attack will be provided, but in WoW Elemental Shaman is a pure ranged caster class that is constantly using lightning, fire/lava, and nature-based spells. Restoration Shaman is also a pure ranged specialization focusing on healing spells. The specializations do not involve weapon attacks at all as far as I remember and you generally don't want to be within that range.
DnD places much less emphasis on in-combat healing of course, but neither of these specializations feels like it can be well represented by a barbarian chassis. In general I like what I see for this product but these 2 specializations seem like obvious fits as some kind of DnD druid subclass.

Playing D&D since 1982
Have played every version of the game since Basic (original Red Box Set), except that abomination sometimes called 4e.

Yeah, the time to make edits was six months ago.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
