Last night I was exhausted and ready to call it a night when my kid came into the office and asked me if I would help them create a character for their school's Dungeons and Dragons Club. What followed was 90 minutes of pure excitement and joy as I helped them to create a florist who gave up their life of arranging flowers to pursue adventure as a ranger. Midway through the process we were talking about what favored enemy meant and they asked, "So, it's like, who you really hate right now?"
Nailed it.
Seeing a hero at the outset of decades of adventure made the world feel full of possibility again.

"Ma'am, you do not need to yell at me. This is my first day with your 7th grader and I am also upset that they cannot read." - me, teaching.
That is one of the most exciting parts of being a DM or just knowing the system. You get to help people have their fun and be what they want.

Most of the games I run are for teenagers aged 12-18 and honesty it’s one of the most rewarding things I do. Just the level of excitement when I reveal a big plot twist, a new villain for them to hate, or just a particularly cool map is contagious and constantly reminds me why I love both playing and DMing
Great share! I got into the hobby when I was a teenager myself. Once as a teen I got to join an adult Westmarch campaign in Dallas, Texas USA. A friend of my dad played and they would host a giant meet up once every few months that served as the town for all the various tables. About 40ish people in total would get together and the parties involved would trade gear, buy or build stuff in town. Then they would assign out quests to complete before the next meet up. I typically do not play with kids but I have once before online. I joined the game and didn't realize the group was all very young teenagers. If I had dropped they wouldn't have been able to play so I did a session with them and rolled on to another group. It was a blast and they all had fun. I even got a thank you from the DM because I didn't make it awkward.
It is nice to see there is another generation playing.

Why can’t we have more wholesome stuff like this on the forums?
