I'm probably just not looking hard enough because I can't find this in the players handbook, but is picking up a dropped weapon in combat no action, an action, or a bonus action?
You get to "interact with an object" once per turn without spending any kind of action, which could be picking up an object (including a dropped weapon) or any of a whole mess of other things.
If you've already used your free object interaction, then picking up an object off the ground would be a Utilize action. You can also do it as part of attacking with it via the Attack action.
You can also do it as part of attacking with it via the Attack action.
Technically, you can do it via the attack action even if you're not attacking with the weapon. You get a free draw/stow along with each attack you make, but nothing says you have to attack with the weapon you draw or stow. (Although your DM might rule you do.)

It depends what is the weapon and what you're trying to do with it.;
Edit Ninja'ed! Added link to the Time-Limited Object Interaction
