I used themes for my characters and the people in their backstories. Exampes:
Stars Druid named Cirius and hos brother was Arcturus (names of stars)
City names like in Money Heist: Knoxville, Cadiz, Toronto, etc.
My Familiars are named for Univeristies: Oxford, Harvard. Yale
My forest gnome druid/apothecare and his family (Rx/OTC): Zincofax, Zyrtek, Norinyl, Allegra, Jolessa.
I am assuming you know that Knoxville, Tennessee has a rather interesting suburb: Oak Ridge, which is the site of a national lab for nuclear energy research and that the woods on the outskirts of Oak Ridge are saturated with toxic substances.
Home grown chernobyl? That would be neat idea for a campaign. Aberrations found in the forest outside of an Arcane College, because the research depart was dumping magical waste into the wilderness.

The woods around Oak Ridge became contaminated with the fumes of uranium hexafluoride gas escaping from the uranium processing plants. Deer hunting in those woods is problematic because you have no idea what those deer eat.
There is also a site in Washington State called the Hanford site where plutonium was produced during the 1940's and the 1950's. Extremely lethal wastes are buried there and the U.S. government still does not know what to do with the leaking containers or where to permanently put this stuff.
Chernobyl was relatively easy. Nuclear fission reactor fuel is insufficiently "rich" in the uranium isotope 235 to be used for a nuclear weapon. Nuclear fission reactor fuel can still cause one heck of an environmental mess but not a nuclear explosion. The results of Oak Ridge and Hanford, though, went into U.S. nuclear weapons.
We are getting really off topic. I chose Knoxville as a name for a backup PC because I liked the way it sounded. It had nothing to do with the history or the city or radiation. :)

Sorry about that. I have been in the neighborhood of Knoxville, Tennessee a number of times and I have the stories as well as what went on in the Oak Ridge labs over the years. Every place that was part.of the Manhattan Project is slightly strange and weird.
By the way, I am not a member of the military nor am I a nuclear researcher. I have simply heard the non sensitive gossip.
