A week or so ago I announced here and elsewhere about my upcoming Kickstarter'd hardcover magic items compendium. We're taking all the many hundreds of items (over at the blog--manysideddice.com), we've rewritten most of them to make them "for real book" ready, and have been putting it all together before we ever touch "crowdfunding". I wanted to share with DNDBeyond that project.
After talking to pros (both Kickstarter successes and publishers), and taking their advice, I launched a pre-KS sign-up form for proper updates and have seen an explosion in people signing up. I've learned a lot from just that form. Far more people than I thought are seriously interested in a book (soft or hardcover). I'd assumed it'd be mostly PDF people... but apparently, the 5e community really wants books. I plan on using the sign-up mailing list to give out a few things from time to time--actual giveaways. I like kicking a book on occasion or dice to people, supporting the hobby and community is kind of important to me.
For some eye-candy, I wanted to post the final image of our second teaser item (Hartlight Beacon, revised). You can find the first teaser item in that announcement link I talked about above.
We finished the work from the marketing team to aid in the branding and advertising--great people. I contracted an excellent cover artist this past week who has done work for big name game companies like Fantasy Flight and the light. She's amazing, and we'll have our sketch of the cover hopefully in a couple of weeks.
The main manuscript is about 220 pages right now (no art added yet, though about 4% of it is done), it's going to be a beefy 300+ page tome for sure. We're planning on going live with a ready PDF (minimum product) on May 13th. Two weeks! Jeez.
So... I wanted to thank everyone here who stopped to read this. I'm proud that this whole thing started right here on reddit (from me just posting to blogging to this) and want to thank every single person I've ever interacted with (or argued with) on these forums. I promise, I'm going to finish this.
We're also on Facebook and Twitter and I'm working on making that a thing.
We're doing our own book on Kickstarter! It's going to be amazing--300 pages, art, and so much high quality content you'll be drownin' in it... Click here to check it out and sign-up!
