Does it seem tougher than it should to get into a roll 20 group? I've tried a few times to apply to groups on there, but I never seem to get into any of them? Anyone have any tips and tricks for doing this cause I'd love to play a game with my wife and so far I can't even get into a game on my own.
You've got to be persistent. Check the /r/lfg subreddit. Check the Roll20 forums frequently. Check and apply for any games that come up on the "join game" page. Look for what the DM is asking for, see if you can apply using their desired criteria (e.g. say that you're a team player and you value working together with others to build a good story). And if all else fails, you need to DM your own game on Roll20 and take the reigns. Just do it.
I'm already DMing a game offline, I'm honestly just trying to take a break from DMing cause I haven't been able to play in almost 20 years. But solid suggestion, and I would really like to run a game on there one day.
One thing I discovered is certain “games” on Roll20 are just hubs for character creation. The real action is on their discord server where any of several GMs might have games scheduled throughout the week that aren’t posted on R20, only to people in that server, though the game still happens at a R20 table. Adventure League Hub is a great example of that. Once you’re in there, getting into games is easy. I rarely even cruise the Join A Game page now. Their system is so easy to use.
Discord groups and r/LFG have been successful for me whenever I have been looking for a group to play with in the past. Best of luck to you in your search!
Just mention you’ve been plying d&d for over 20 years. I like to have at least one experienced player in the group to guide the party away from total party kills. :)

I'm don't like to toot my own horn, but I should lol. Thank you.
