So I've recently (yesterday) told my DM that druid was just not for me (took me almost 2 ******* years to see it too). And I've begun chatting with him and look at different classes and races, about what the **** I wanna play! I have about 40-50 different character ideas on my phone's notepad, and now I barely have 3! We started in 3.0 and have just moved over to 5e. We're level 9 and there are 2 players and 1 NPC following us around. My littlebrother is the other player. He is playing a Half Orc Barbarian. Pretty good at it too! My DM made an NPC, a human ranger who adores my littlebrother's character. It's a forest based (mostly) campaign so an urban rogue might not be of much use here but I was hoping that someone would dare to put up a cool character concept for me, as I want to make sure I don't skip over something. Now first a few things worth adressing:
Races: I can't play a tiefling or a dragon. Yeah I know. It SUCKS. But the world we're in, tieflings aren't a thing that just walks around. I don't even think dragonborns exsist in his world so... Yeah. I might be able to pull of aasimar, and I was thinking of a changeling, buuuuut it's gonna be hard. So not to exotic races sadly. ^^
Classes: I of course don't wanna play a druid. Clerics are too close to druids so I'm skipping on them too I think. Mayyyyybbbe I will take it if I find a cool concept buuut erh. And I'm almsot cry saying this but; I can't play a warlock. My DM hasn't said anything about me not allowed to play a warlock but I just assumed so. I LOVE warlocks and my DM has the same though on monks as he does on warlocks. "They're special and require a little more than just rolling dice and talking". Which I agree too. But that doesn't make them any less cool (hopefully) ^^. Yes, I might be able to bring in homebrew, but probably not a whole new class. I might be able to roll in the blood hunter because I CAN BE A *******.... WEREWOLF! That shit is ******* awesome! I have though about a gunslinger, because Maya from PoE 2 was actually the first time I had a gunslinger build pop into my head. I've tried to make a gunslinger build but it never really worked for me, I can't fit a race with it sadly...
Concepts so far:
Moon Elf Wizard, bladesinger, Background: Courtier. She is great at being a well... courtier but social life stuff is never easy for her. I was thinking a character who had manners, spoke well, fine dressed and then when it came to social life she couldn't even tell the difference between talking or flirting.
A college of lore bard, human. Lost all her memories, she woke up in blingdenstone. She is that.. erhh... not guy.. erh "lady" who will poke a dragon just too see what it will do. I thought it would be fun to play a character who is happy and wants to try new things, as she can't remember about 98% of who she was. Oh yeah and it would be a good chance to live by the 3 best D&D rules. Sleep with everyone. Steal from everyone, and kill those who see you doing either (yeah I know. I know what you're thinking. It was a good panel) ^^
Another bard, a member of the harpers, college of swords. Don't really have any idea on who she/he would be yet.
Those are the 3 concepts I have at the moment. I would love to here some more. Oh and sorry if I said a lot of the same in different ways. I tend to do that. Thanks in advance! ^^
As much as I'd like to suggest a bladesinger with 2 levels paladin for a fighting style, martial weapons, lay on hands, cure wounds, and divine smite (divine sense is a bonus, and you can combine wrathful smite with booming blade to try and force them to move)...
I think a bard could really shine in your party composition. Rather than laying down damage, crowd control spells like sleep and hypnotic pattern, healing spells healing word and greater restoration, and more. You can combo cloud of daggers with the barbarian's grapple to hold enemies in the pain zone. With all the other bard abilities, it would be an asset in and out of combat. I think lore bard would cover party needs more than swords.
Off Topic - DaergielTheShy, you think maybe you could cut down the cussing just a little bit? I understand that you're impassioned about your subject but the words aren't needed are they?

I like your blade singer concept; seems like it'd be a blast to play. Very intelligent; knows all the scripts for formal interaction, but doesn't know shit about how to be an actual person. Plus bladesingers are just ******* cool.
I would go for college of sword it very versityle class. blade fourish enchant your melee attack with the 3 choices being very different to each other. Magical secret allow you to pick any spell from oter classes you want. And inspire your brother to help him survive saving throw that he weak against.
also idk how much are social/envirement encounter in your game but bard makes a great skillmonkey.
Yeah I have a bard of lore that I could use. At the moment I'm looking at college of swords and college of lore. (And bladesinger wizard ^^) Yes we could really use some charismatic bastard! xD My previous character had an 11 charisma. My brother's orc has a 7 (Since in 3e you got a -2 or 3 to cha as a half orc) and the NPC has an 8 or a 9 I think xD.
I'm sorry! It's a tic. Not that I go around screaming them out but, my english is a little, erh. Filthy I guess you could say. I wanna say dirty but that's gonna haunt me forever! xD
Yeah. I think if I went college of lore I would miss the extra attack. I was 1 level away in 3e for my druid to get extra attack, and then we made a homebrew circle that gave me extra attack. I want to feel more useful than just: "I swip at the ogre with my rapier! I rolled a 15 to hit. Misses? Alright then I'm gonna bonus action misty step away. That's my turn" It says you'rea a sword bard lvl 10. So I'm guessing that you're a bard (college of swords). Do you miss or wish you had cutting words? Because peerless skill to me seems tbh.. REALLY boring. Sure, it's nice and useful but being able to give myself insparation doesn't really appeal to me as much as the cutting words do. And Additional magical secrets is really cool and useful buuuut it's at 6th level. So I get 3rd to 0 level spells. While there are some really nice spells on those lists, I still get two at level 10. But man, it is cool to have spells from ANY spell list! xD
Yeah! My last character she was just a *****. Srsly. She hated humans. She thought the gold elves low and looked at them as selfish bastards, and didn't really care for the fancy chit chat. And she was constantly angry. Not throwing her entire story out (at least not yet) because no one wants to read it all but she was also at the edge of having a breakdown. She is starting to hear voices, I was about to make a sheet of random stuff she would do when others played a joke on her or she thought she was left out alone. She would get restless and uncareing just to prove she could be hard and push through stuff too. She did not have it well. And when there came a little more role play involed I had a hard time liking the way that my character would act in those moments.
Yeah. Bladesingers are one of the coolest subclass for a wizard imo. They made a melee fighter wizard that didn't suck! I was really impressed at how good it was! I thought it would just be an extra attack, and some minor buffs perhaps, but all in all I thought it would just be point less and if you dual classed to fighter it would be better but no! They are really dope! The idea for a courtier that has no grasp on social interaction outside of a court room sounded really fun to me. Which is where my littlebrother and the NPC, Alex are really good at. Drinking ale and having parties is something the courtier would never have done. She is prof in insight but have a 10 wisdom score, mostly because I wanted it to be an 8 or 9 but then she would have a -1 insight. And my last character was a druid! So it kinda work out perfectly that I didn't have a high wisdom this time.
My biggest problem is just that while the NPC is a ranger and can heal, and so can my little brother as he dual classed to cleric, it really helps when it's one who is fully dedicated to spells. And a wizard can't heal. Even in games like PoE 2 I never wanna take healing spells for my wizard. Cuz it just seems wrong. But I really wanna know what are your thoughts on the bladesinger? Do you think with a ranger 6 (NPC) and a barbarian 6/Cleric 3 that a bladesinger wizard would help out? I mean arcane spellcaster is always really nice to have but we are VERY limited in healing. And both me and the barbarian is gonna need a whole sh#t ton of it.
I tbh, don't really see something special in the goliath. They get the same +2 str and +1 con as half orcs. Only they can carry a bit more. Eh. They can once per long rest reduced damage done by 1d12 + something which is the most special thing about them sadly. Bloodhunter I would like but my DM doesn't like the weird shit. he doesn't like tieflings or dragonborn and so I don't think I could be a bloodhunter. Though some day I wanna be a werewolf! ^^ I have though of a paladin. Oath breaker or oath of vengeance. But I think it would be a little to "divine" for me. But I really like paladins now in 5e. I remember looking at them in 5e and thinking: "I'll never play that". In 5e I have made 4 or 5 builds in my head for paladins! Just never the oath of devotion nor oath of redemtion. Pretty sure that you could just play a bard of glamour and do almost everything better xD.
Yes that would be a nice little buff with a +2 damage. Booming blade however requires them to "willingly" move before it takes effect. Paladin wouldn't fit with the bladesinger I've created so I would need for both the booming blade or/and the wrathful smite I would need the feat "magic initiate". Which I would use on a lot other things tbh. Yeah I am well aware that we require someone surpport based in our party xD. Was kinda force into that as a druid. However I've waited a long time for extra attack, cuz I hate the single attack shit. It's sooooo annoying to miss that single attack. And I've done that for almost 2 years. But I'm not the biggest c#ck so I am keeping support in mind yes. ^^ But thank you for the suggestion.
I would agree you mostly lack a full caster as for it being a backline caster or second frontline caster depend on the ranger if it archer/melee/hybred.
Lore bard i would say mostly caster/support/skillmonkey. You only have acces to light armor no shield + no extra attack so you wanna be on the backline. Cutting word is a great skill as for peerless idk how much abicilty check you run in your campaing but adding on the bard already profieciensy/experstise skill + jack of all trade and this you have great chance in succeding whatever you do.
Sword bard caster with option to be second frontliner/support/skillmonkey. Defensive flourish buff your ac when attacking and mobile flourish allow you attack from melee and then kite back (or push people of a ledge :P). When you have Master's Flourish you can keep using those flourish skill withouth expending resource.
As for race of the bard was thinking maybe half-elf instead human and you and your brother had the same human father but different mother or vice versa. How that play between you relationship i leave up to you. I din't mention it first because i though you din't multiclass + warlock was apperntly harder to go trough your DM. But if he allow a small dip of 2 lvl hexblade warlock. This make your hex weapon and your spell only charisma based + you got medium armor so you only need +2 dex for decent AC. Also you get acces to lvl 1 shield, eldritch blast, booming blade enhancing the hybred playstyle. The hexed weapon can be your arcane staff or rapier. As for lore idk how exactly warlock and patron work but was maybe thinking a cursed tatoo on your blade arm you preventing from spreading. (this can work for lore or sword bard).

THAT IS A REALLY ******* GREAT IDEA. THE WARLOCK PART. The bard who has college of lore is a human who lost her memory. She was found in a minflayer city so walking up and then having 2 levels of warlock. Plus I ******* looooove eldritch blast cantrip. Probably one of my favorite cantrips other than vicious mockery! ^^ I don't think I want to be from the same father tbh, that would just be weird xD. Plus I'm not sure that my little brother want my character suddenly have an impact in his backstory. But not a bad idea by a long shot. Yeah I'm gonna try different races instead of human, but I'll see what goes best both for the character, game mechanics and my general idea and picture of the character. THank you for the comment! ^^

For warlock dips, I recommend 3 levels for pact boon and level 2 pact slots. Also remember that bards use instruments for a spellcasting focus, but warlocks use arcane foci.
