Since I teach quite a few games with pre-generated characters, I've created a standard character with basic equipment and the setup I use for all my games and named it "Starting Character Template (M & F)" for both male and female characters. I then Copy it when I need to make a new character and then go through the equipment and and remove appropriate items for that character. Do you do it this way? Are there other ways that some of you out there handle making new characters quickly?
I don't know about doing this for D and D since I am still new but I know for world of darkness changeling the lost I always have the base stats and what would be seen as feats in d and d picked out for certain kiths within a seeming that I know I will be playing alot. So sort off that I tend to still wing it a lot so not as much. I probably will do what you do when I have played D and D more. But again only in terms of basic class stats and gear.
