Let me preface my reply highlighting the fact that in 5ed, much more than in other editions of D&D, party composition is somewhat less of an issue or possible disaster.
That being said: this party, imho, looks most definitely solid, as all typical roles are coved by at least one character, with a couple of overlaps that add variety and possibilities.

The party looks very solid. The bard should definitely take healing word to pop the cleric and/or paladin back up if they fall, but with and abjurer, the party should stay shielded.

Is the following party balanced, or is it lacking something necessary for it to function well?
Variant Human Abjurer Wizard (Sage Background)
Variant Human Lore Bard (Criminal Background)
Half-Elf Ancients Paladin (City Watch Background)
Variant Human Battlemaster Fighter (Soldier Background) (Archery Fighting style)
Hill Dwarf Tempest Cleric (Outlander Background)

It doesn't always matter what the party make-up is. However, if certain archetypes are lacking, it just makes the GMs job more interesting =)
