Just curious as I am having trouble with this one. I helping a friend make a character based on Maka from Soul Eater.
Her race is going to be Variant Human. But I am stuck on what class her character should be and don't know own what to advise my friend to take.
I would have taken Warlock, pact of the blade, with a scythe as the pact weapon - but Warlocks are really difficult to play and my friend is brand new to d&d (she's watched critical role and wants to play)
Can you suggest to me an easier class to play than warlock for a Soul Eater inspired character.
Here is the link to the fandom wiki for Maka, so you guys can see what kind of character she is in the anime.
I'd say almost certainly paladin, either devotion, ancients, or vengeance. She should probably be a DEX build, but only if the DM will make scythes finesse weapons, otherwise use a glaive.
Warlock isn't horrible mechanically for a newbie. Spell slots are easy to track and don't have to worry about what level to cast them at. If they are starting level one and easing into their abilities they should be fine.
(Hexblade) Warlock also makes the most sense thematically since meisters get most of their fighting power from their soul link (pact) with their weapon partner.

Thanks guys.
