We gave you the solutions at hand, and we told you how things are now.
After that its your decision, but there's not much more that can be done, the game has moved on, the way it is distributed as changed and the tools has evolved.
If you don't want to use it, then thats that, nothing else.

D&D Beyond and Roll d20 are seperate companies to WotC (and to each other) that is why you cannot buy a bundle of a paper copy and an electronic copy, and also why you need to buy separate electronic copies for D&D Beyond and Roll d20.
If you still have all your 1e, 2e, or any other edition stuff or a non-D&D RPG for that matter, there is absolutely no reason you can't advertise for gamers to play that game. A look at what is selling in the market place is pretty good assurance that lots of people are playing games other than 5e D&D.
It will likely be easier to recruit for 5e because that is the most popular game being played today. Just the way it is.
There have been a lot of changes since 2e, but the biggest change is that you have unified action resolution, this innovation was first made back in 3e and has been being refined since. Basically, for most everything you do that has a chance of failure, there is a Difficulty Class (DC), for which Armor Class is also a subset. You roll a d20, add any relevant modifiers, then if the total meets or exceeds the DC, you succeed. Otherwise, you fail.
Are you are attacking a creature? Roll a d20, add your Str or Dex, any other bonuses. If the total meets or exceeds the target's AC, you succeed.
Are you trying to convince somebody not to kill you? Roll a d20, add your Cha, your proficiency bonus if you're proficient in persuasion. If the total meets or exceeds a DC set by the DM(I usually have the target creature make a Wis save and use that as the DC), your persuasion attempt was, at least partially, successful.
Trying to dodge a wizard's fireball? Roll a d20, add your Dex, your proficiency bonus if you're proficient in Dex saves. If the total meets or exceeds the wizard's spell save DC, you dodge it, or at least, half of it.
If you still don't like the core idea, DMs are and have always been in short supply. If you're unsatisfied with 5e, there's no reason you can't post a sign or something in a hobby shop about how you're planning a 2e campaign. Players will come, I guarantee it. Just expect to spend a lot of time going over the more fiddly bits of the rules.
Thank you very much for taking time to put together a great explanation. the biggest barrier for me was the DM rolling when to and what to roll for. I spent the night looking up Drows in my 1e 2e tomes and using google along with this site. 39 years ago a rouge was a 1st level thief and a priest was a 9th level cleric a succubus was a demon now its just a fiend. I was watching a guy on you tube for his personal recommendations on what to buy then he told us he's been playing for a little over a year "dooohhhh". I just found this site with people like you I might find what I need to DM WOW forum not nice people there. anyway thank you again I inadvertently closed the window to my sub-class homebrew last night looking for the D&D Hasbro connection got to start over but I had a better idea on making it an all female assassin class.

And here I thought I was on my best behavior. BUT NO I got scolded and threatened with corner time. I guess we are not allowed to express our feelings or opinions on anything here. All hugs and kisses every body's special every one gets a ribbon that says 'Your a winner" Not here more then a week and I got naughty points twice. How many points do I get?
I feel everyone here is trying to be super helpful, but you seems to be overtly critical of both Beyond and Hasbro owning D&D? Your stack of 1e and 2e contents speaks to the ridiculous amount of monetization that both of those formats had under TSR. If you prefer 2e or 1e no one is trying to stop you from playing them or trying to sell you 5th edition, and we have provided you with avenues where you can play the formats you want to play. Google'ing 2nd edition D&D in Chicago came up with a ton of results, so maybe stop lamenting about 5e and go play the version you want. The best d&d version is the one you enjoy playing.
