Okay, some backstory, I'm DMing a psuedo D&D type game of my own design, I'm only running a single campaign for a single PC. So far stuff has been pretty normal, except for a few very dumb decisions, but hey, that's to be expected. But what just happened has got to be the dumbest thing I've ever seen a PC do, he tried to game a hell-hound... Now there's nothing wrong with trying to tame a creature, even a hell-hound, the problem lies with his method, repeatedly trying to rub its belly, even when it was attacking him, even when an NPC in the party told him to just kill it, even when he had a perfect opportunity to do just that when it was chained to the wall... Nothing, he never tried to attack it, it had 35 HP, he had 35 HP, I thought this would be a pretty even battle just one on one, let alone with the power of the full party (Of three other NPC's) behind him, but no, he didn't deal a single point of damage, because he made everyone else back away from it and not attack it, I eventually he was down to one HP, and he was taking 2 damage from bleeding at the beginning of his turns, but I bended the rules a bit to save him by allowing him to use a teleportation crystal he had in his pocket. He now has 2 HP and gauze all over him, I'm considering blinding him to teach him a lesson to not do that, should I do that? Did I do something wrong, or is it his stubbornnesses fault? Also, side note, he still wants to go back and continue to try and tame it, Wtf... Thanks for reading
TL;DR: My one PC tried to tame a hell-hound by rubbing its belly, it didn't work at all, now he has 2 HP, he can barely move, and I'm thinking of making him go blind, as he was attacked in the face
I had a player act very similarly to a griffon, even though there were hippogriffs that I was trying to make clear could be tamed if helped.
What I'd suggest is a conversation out of the game, asking him why, out of character. I have a hunch that the answer is that he wants a companion pet, maybe even specifically that hellhound, and is willing to make his character do dumb things to get one.
If that's the case, then its up to you as the DM to determine what he'll need to do to get one and set that up for him along the adventure path, just like we do with other character goals.

Send help pleaseWe all do stupid things in real life too. If he’s stupid enough to go back, have it attack again and let the dice fall where they fall.
