Looking into the Compendium of Forgotten Secrets at the The Accursed Archive patron.
the index is described
the Index Incarnatus - the one, endless book that contains the location and description of every single scrap of forbidden lore with in the Archive
Can anyone give an idea on what this means?
" Any creature that attempts to read from the Index must make a Charisma saving throw against the DC of the skill check that would be required to gain the knowledge they seek through ordinary means."
Trying to understand what DC skill check would be and if I can find crafting formulas or spell tomes inside
My guess is for example that if you're looking in this big book for information on the effects of a spell--that would be an Arcana check without the book. So with the book, you make a Charisma save against whatever the DC would be for you to make an Arcana check for the same info.
For example:
You want to know what the magical ring inscribed in the floor of the temple does.
DM determines that you'd have to make an Arcana check with a DC of 17 to know that.
You can make a Charisma save vs DC 17 to get the information, instead of making an Arcana check.

Yeah...that's poorly written.

I guess. That's how it seems to read to me.
