I've been trying to find out what this means but I'm at a loss. does anyone know please? Easy enough to see it. Go to https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells and look in the right column. Some say Acid, some say Acid (...), as an example. There seems to be no pattern to this that I can detect, and the PBH doesn't include these triple dots encased in brackets that I can see.
These spells appear to have multiple effect tags, multiple damage types, or are capable of doing damage multiple times, there may be more causes, but those are the ones I could find.
A lot of those involve the caster having a choice in what type of damage the spell will deal. It might deal Acid damage, or Fire Damage, or Lightning Damage, depending on the choice you make at the time of casting. The (...) is shorthand for the presence of more tagged modifiers than can fit in the space.
