OK I've been waiting for months and months for the Saltmarsh module to come out, with hopes that a malenti race would come out so I could update my 3.5 malenti sea ranger Shark Tooth Jack.
Dude I loved that tooth spitting character.
No luck though. Anyone out there know if this race is on the future cards?
Only WotC knows. They seem to be trying to keep player options limited and simple compared to previous editions (no hybrid races for example, except half-elves/orcs).
I did live in hope that the seafaring, pirate singing, deep sea intrigue adventure would be my hopes of a side bar race option. You are right though it is never going to bear Melanti fruit.
As for homebrew alas that is also not an option, I play with those that deem fireball can not look sparkly for my Unicorn Partron warlock as it is not in the rules. No chance for the resurrection of Shark Tooth Jack and his high seas adventures.
So I think you are both right that I just need to cry a little salt water tear and get on with a less colourful universe.

You can homebrew it in.
Doubtful as they have both triton and sea elves. I don't see them adding another sea based elf-life race anytime soon.
