Hello, I’m currently working on fleshing out personal quests for my players.
One of my players had a run in with a Lich in their backstory, and I would like to include this as a recurring source for personal quests. In his backstory, his young daughter was taken by the Lich.
I see this as an opportunity for eventual missions regarding this. My main question is, would a Lich have any reason for keeping a live prisoner? If this characters daughter was taken by a Lich, what reason would the Lich have for keeping her alive?
That's easy! Lich's are seeking power and a live prisoner can be used for magical experiments. Researching a new spell? Test it on the prisoner. Brewing potions? Test them on the prisoner. Want to create a new hybrid monstrosity as a guard and minion? The prisoner makes a great test subject, doesn't she? And more.
