In my creation of Homebrew content, I have begun making monsters, but I have trouble figuring out what challenge raying to give them. Can anyone help out with a good method of determining that. How do you do it?
I know there are guides, but it can still be hard to accurately gauge a CR. I have found some benefit from using an online CR calculator like this one. CR as a measure of the difficulty of an encounter is much more an art than a science so i think if you can even get close to accurate, then you are doing yourself and your party a service by making the effort.

There's a guide to determining CR in the Dungeon Master's Guide
