It's just a DND game that's only intended to last one session. It can be a good way to introduce someone to the game, or to try out a character concept, often done at higher levels.
In my experience one-shots take 3 sessions, but my group only plays 2-3 hour sessions.
That's funny but not unexpected.
It should be added that a one-shot isn't necessarily a one session game. It just means that the actions of the game will possibly not have influence on a greater campaign.
That being said, it might be fun for Players to game out some of the history of your campaign world in a one shot.

Just need a simple explanation for what is a DND one Shot. I recently restarted in DND and been hearing this phrase.

A short adventure built to only last 1-4 sessions max.
