A Long time ago a flooded basement cost me all of my hardcover books. My kids have recently asked me to begin playing and I’m working towards rebuilding what I lost. I had thought about sourcing the originals of eBay, but after some discussions on here, it seems that 5e is streamlined enough for me to learn fairly easily. I do have one old book/new book questions. Back in my day..........yes, I know........ we had a book called Unearthed Arcana. It was an additional supplement to the PHB that had new classes and spells, etc. I can’t seem to find a 5e equivalent. I did however find Xanathar’s Guide to Everything. Is this a similar book? Just want to make sure I have access to some of the “newer” character classes.

Yeah, Xanathar's Guide is the closest thing to Unearthed Arcana. UA currently exists as the name for WotC's playtest material; stuff they want to get into the hands of the players to test play before it gets released in a published book.
Wizards has moved onto a somewhat different model from previous generations; rather than usual "Here's a book of monsters, here's a book of class options, here's a book of magic items", each non-adventure book beyond the core three has something for everyone
Volo's Guide to Monsters; mainly monsters but includes some player races
Xanathar's Guide to Everything; mix of optional rules, subclasses, magic items and background options, spells and inspiration
Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes: monsters, races and subraces
Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica; factions (guilds), monsters, items, backgrounds, mini adventure, setting information
Swordcoast Adventurer's Guide; spells, races, subclasses, setting information
Thank you so much! That answers A LOT of questions for me. I had picked up some used 4e books to get started and it just seemed so structured and non-user friendly.
