I think you're the one making assumptions; assuming that everyone plays out social encounters on a grid (where a cone type system would work). The current wording of the spell works great if you're playing out social encounters on a grid or as theatre of the mind (as every game I've played or seen played has).

 I think you need  to work on your comprehension skills. I clearly said I made an assumption that you usually address people in front of you. I also said how my group plays. Lastly, I state that all ideas I posted may or may not be of use depending on the individuals. That is a disclaimer to ALL my stated opinions, and assumes nothing.

As far as I'm concerned the range on this spell makes sense from both a mechanical point of view and a practical point of view.

I wish I could cast the spell on this thread.
