A question I have is that when a subtle spell ie... Charm person which if casted normally would require the target to have a wisdom saving throw. However; when done subtly (having no Verbal or Somatic components) would the target still get a wisdom saving throw and would they be at a disadvantage? No one would perceive that a spell is being cast let alone the target.
RAW: Yes, the target would still get a saving throw, with the advantage/disadvantage as written. "Subtle spell" makes the spell harder to detect, since it no longer requires verbal or somatic components. It doesn't change the spell's effects, though, and the wisdom saving throw is written in the spell's text.
Thematically: In the case of Charm Person, I typically think of the wisdom saving throw as the person's willpower resisting the magic trying to twist their thoughts. I don't see how the spell being subtle would make this much easier or harder.
As always, rule 0, the DM gets to overrule anything they like if they want to. I don't see why they would in this case, though.
Subtle spell means it's virtually impossible to use counterspell against a casting, and lets you get away with casting a spell during RP without a sleight of hand check. The target of the spell still gets a saving throw to see if they can shrug off the effects of the spell.
