Gotcha. So they keep track of the HP and actions and such separate from the combat tracker in Encounter Builder. OK - It seems a little clunky but workable. Now if the player app would just support the extras tab...
Do you use the encounter builder to run encounters? I can't figure out how to integrate sidekicks into that other than to add them as monsters which throws off difficulty calculations and makes control of the creatures complicated for an online session. I would also like these integrated into Avrae/Discord for some of the other games. I have tried a few options - one of which is to create characters at the campaign level and have players take control of them so they can run them - but that means using standard classes which isn't what I want.
Hi @Vanya_42nd
I do use the Encounter Builder quite a bit but I don't put the Sidekicks in it as the Player can control their own Sidekick. Add the Sidekick to the Player's Character Sheet under the Extras tab and then the player can control the Sidekick on their own.
I had one more question - is there a way to short or long rest the extras characters? I put mine in as beast companions but I know I can do them as sidekicks as well. I just don't see a long or short rest option.
I thought there was a Long/Short Rest option on the Sidekick but I am apparently mistaken - alas, it does not reset the Sidekick if you Long Rest the Character :-(

It also doesn't allow spell integration. Slots aren't tracked and hyperlinked spells that work in the monster are basic text. This solution isn't as good as I hoped.
I do believe there are plans for a Sidekick tool but they just didn't have time to implement it before Tasha's was released due to so much work going into just getting the content integrated with the time they had from when WoTC sent them said content until the deadline of that books' release date.

Fair enough. It also doesn't work in Avrae/DNDBeyond Integration. In that case you can cast using !mcast but you can't track slots. I tend to use an "effect" that I add to the creature like "Slot1-1" "Slot1-2" "Slot-9" to track what has been used. It works but it is clumsy.
Not complaining - just noting what works and wishing. It would be really helpful if that spellblock worked like it does everywhere else. I know the syntax is accurate since the custom monster statblock works correctly when pulled up outside the extras section. It doesn't matter which type of extra you select.
Sorry for necroposting but is it just each revision of a sidekick counts as a higher level or is it the CR? And do they have to be published for the revision to count or just a new statblock per?

Are you referring to the sidekick statblocks that re/were part of Dragon of Icespire Peak, or are you talking about statblocks you have created to be sidekicks?
That I created. I converted a creature that my wife tamed during one of our games to a sidekick but I’m just trying to make sure I know how it level it up as it levels. From what I read it’s make a new statblock per level. So my question is does that meat me it levels up per version or is it the minsters CR translate to its level when remade?

You don't need to make a new statblock for each level. You just need to edit the existing statblock to add any new features, HP, etc.
I'm not quite certain what to do about CR. Using a monster statblock for sidekicks is a bit of a work around, and the CR point is one place where it's not a perfect solution. I think you want to keep the CR to a number that means its proficiency bonus is correct for its sidekick "level." (The CR/Proficiency bonus table can be found here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/monsters#ProficiencyBonusbyChallengeRating)
For example, if the sidekick is level 4, its proficiency bonus is +2. So it's probably a good idea to set the CR to something between 2 and 4. It looks to me like the CR and level proficiency bonuses scale in parallel when the CR is a whole number (i.e. 1 or more), so I think you could just set the CR to be the same as the level of the sidekick.
Note that if you use the encounter builder here, that will mess up the difficulty calculations. If that's an issue for you, I can share some tips about how I manage that.

Being able to track NPC spell slots in general would be a useful addition. Probably a subject for a different forum though (feedback).

I know that I am late to the party here, but where is the "Extra's" tab?
On character sheet, where the rest of the tabs are (actions, spells, equipment, etc).
I just found it. Like you all said, it is very rudimentary.
