I will be running a ones shot in the new year for 7 people (potentially more) but I need some help for it, as I kinda want them to be mid level 8-10 maybe.
But the theme is a nightmare circus, the players visit and is all fun and games until all hell (literally) breaks lose, madness, strange things and all manner of scary stuff.
But I am in need of help on three things:
how much gold would you give to players to spend on equipment? (Like an average for each player)
Any ideas for small games for them to play before and after all hell breaks lose? (Go wild)
And finally....
3) The ringmaster I have no clue what to stat him as, I was more leaning for him to be a powerful magic user but what do you people think?
Give me your greatest ideas and let’s see if the players will survive for one night only!!!!
let them choose starting material along with a bit of extra, like taking better armor, and then giving a few magic items at the fit for what level they’re at
for everything else just go read up on Ravnica’s cult of Rakdos, it is literally a nightmare circus and the stat blocks in the book are pretty good actually

Marvarax andSora (Dragonborn) The retired fighter and WIP scholar - Glory
Brythel(Dwarf), The dwarf with a gun - survival at sea
Jaylin(Human), Paladin of Lathander's Ancient ways - The Seven Saints (Azura Claw)
Urselles(Goblin), Cleric of Eldath- The Wizard's challenge
Viclas Tyrin(Half Elf), Student of the Elven arts- Indrafatmoko's Defiance in Phlan
For 3, how about yochlol. I like the idea of the ringmaster being the fat spider at the center of the circus, sowing seeds of chaos and evil. I imagine kissing booths with Succubus tempting people away from their families, building resentment until some sort of climax of death.
While I'm don't know what you have planned about the circus, this might be interesting.

Thank you for the suggestions I really appreciate them and I like the stats of rakdos but what do you think you might change if you wanted to make a more magic version of him
Man, this all sounds crazy, and i love it! i would love to play, and here is the answer to you question.
I would say to give players extra gold, and like 4 or 5 commons, a couple uncommons, and a rare magic item.
For the big bad ringmaster, maybe stat him out as a wizard / hexblade warlock, and give a cane, that can be revealed to be is sentient hexblade, and if you want to go really crazy, you can have it be a endgame boss, and have it split apart to reveal a special demon, like some sort of weird cane demon, kinda like a yochol.
And for games, have them play poker against a beholder or demon.

Good evening everyone
I will be running a ones shot in the new year for 7 people (potentially more) but I need some help for it, as I kinda want them to be mid level 8-10 maybe.

Well this is actually quite simple
let them choose starting material along with a bit of extra, like taking better armor, and then giving a few magic items at the fit for what level they’re at
for everything else just go read up on Ravnica’s cult of Rakdos, it is literally a nightmare circus and the stat blocks in the book are pretty good actually

100% seconded, this was what I was about to say
