I run a game for a group of teens who are playing for the first time. I have helped them create their characters using my copy of D&D Beyond and I manage their characters from my account.
I'd like to know how to add these existing characters to a new campaign and then the encounter builder (currently it appears I can't use add them unless they are new characters). Is there a work around I'm missing?
First you have to have a subscription. Once you do that you can share your campaign with them. I just got on board with DNDB and I figured it was just easier to have them re-build their characters whilst in my campaign. Nobody had an issue. I had also purchased a bunch of content and one of the guys came back the next week and said he had stayed up until 3 am exploring all the options.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Make a campaign then copy the invite link. Paste the link into the address bar and you should have the option to add existing characters.
You can even unassign them and have your players claim them with their own accounts (make backup copies first if you might want them later).
You will need a sub to use the encounter tracker, and a master tier sub if you want to share your purchases with other accounts, but don't need one for anything I mentioned in first 2 paragraphs.
