I’m a late-40’s gamer myself, and honestly, there’s not many of us, could be the reason for lack of representation. Wizards released a market study in 2020, and only 13% were in the over 40 age group iirc. So, probably we’re doing pretty well, proportionately.

And most of that 13% ver 40 are probably old timers like me that got our starts in our teens or twenties and are still around 20, 30 or ( in my case) 40+years later in our 60s.
50 years old here and still loving the game. I've recently started playing in a campaign with some 30 somethings and am thoroughly enjoying it. About to start a gaming club at school with a couple other like-minded teachers and will DM...trying to get my fill of it, but I want to play more often still. We ought to start a new group of elder players hahaha
I'm under 30 myself but some of the guys I used to work with still play, and they're all 40+. I've only gotten to play with them a couple of times, because scheduling as an adult is a nightmare. I know my old boss DMs for his kids though.
Media doesn't care as much for older people. Been that way for as long as I can remember. It's one of the many reasons you can't use media as a barometer for anything.

There are loads of us. The game I ran for 18 months over the lockdown period had 10 people including myself and 8 of them are well over 40. Neither myself or any of the people I play with have answered a survey for Wizards. I don’t even look at their website.
Some of my best DMs have been 40+. All the players at the table were >20. Everyone can love D&D, but if you're looking at the whole population of D&D players, it definitely skews towards college aged adults and young adults. But our elders can put on some of the best campaigns ever.
I'm 39. I started playing D&D when I was 20, in college, and recently came back to the hobby after a long time away from it. The one regular game I've been in for four months now has a DM also in his 30s and a 19 year old college girl, and I'm honestly not sure how old the other two players are (online game, never actually met in person).
As far as Streaming content, I've never done so and have no particular plans to, though I think it would be fun to try. Mainly I'm just unconvinced any payoff in fame/ego-boosts (let alone possibility of actual profit) would be worth the effort to do it. I frequently have D&D stream replays as a large part of the material I play on my second monitor while doing other stuff online. I also work at a job where I can listen to podcasts while I work, and D&D live plays are the majority content there as well (I'm caught up on NADDPOD and currently just got started into Critical Role's second campaign).
There are a total of 9 of us in my group and all but 2 are 40+. And those that are 40+ we have been playing for 20+ years together. Some of use for an additional decade or 2 before meeting.
I believe the number is over 13% for 40+. We probably missed that survey or said the hell with taking another survey at that time.
Happy gaming to everyone!! Enjoy those stories and make great memories!!
Just booked 4 tickets for DnD celebration. Myself, my oldest and 2 of his friends. I am 2 years older than their combined age....The DM seems youngish based on his social media. But a good portion of the Twitch streams I've been looking at are a good mix or seem to be.
I'm in my mid 50ies and my gaming wife has turned 60, and we're playing more than ever. I have a mix of old and young players at my table. Well, the young ones are 30-35, but still :-)
But I agree, there seem to be lots of really young DMs and players, and that is great!

Yep, you're right about the stats. (52% of the players of D&D 5e are younger than 30.)
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Spells, Monsters, Subclasses, Races, Arcknight Class, Occultist Class, World, Enigmatic Esoterica forms

We should get an over 40 game going!
I'm up for it
