So, I try to mix up what kind of classes I play whenever I am starting another campaign as I am fairly new and still finding what fits for me as a player. Thus far, I've played clerics, a paladin, a druid (For a brief time), a fighter, and now a bard. So far my favorite has been the bard, I feel like I can be the joking trickster who will support you in a fight, but more or less doesn't want to get involved. Combat is not my favorite part of DnD, but role-play is super fun and you can always add role-play to combat. Slowing down on my slight ramble, I post this because I want to know: what has been your favorite class to play? What kind of subclass did you play? Why are they your favorite?
I don’t get to play a lot of D&D, but I can tell you my favorite classes to work with as a DM have been beastmaster ranger and dream druid, mostly for the narrative potential.
Lore Bard for the same reasons as you. I like combat but I also like role play and I make jokes and sing and it’s just a lot of fun...I have two characters in India’s though.
For a campaign I’m going to be starting next week online I am going to play a Human rogue that will eventually be an arcane trickster. Criminal/spy background but not sure if he’s a criminal or a spy yet lol. I will be doing a Russian accent and unlike a bard I will be dumping his charisma stat and I’m going to play into that by having most of my social interactions be just threatening people lol “ you give me discount or I chop off your pinky, yes?” And I’ll have the charm person spell and just charm people into getting what I want instead.
other concept is a noble, I haven’t decided the class yet, I like to think of the character and story first and see what fits it best. Paladin seems likely for this one. But he is going to leave the ranks of nobility to help the less fortunate after seeing how poorly his family and others treated the commoners. However he is going to have a hard time adjusting to his new way of life without all the luxuries he is used to which will hopefully lead to comedic moments.
You say you're not a big fan of combat, so perhaps you could try using a Sorcerer as a party Face, using your spell selection and Metamagic options for manipulation. Combine the use of illusion spells and spells that inflict Charmed or Frightened, alongside things like Color Spray. Use the Subtle Spell metamagic to allow you to cast spells in social situations that you normally wouldn't to ensure the desired outcome of a given conversation.

My favorite character I’ve ever played was a Sun Domain Cleric in 3e. Since then I’ve been a DM.
I'm really liking a Druid I'm playing in a campaign. Druids are just so versatile.

I like Wizards the best since they can learn a variety of spells.
Next favorite would probably be a Pact of Tome Warlock who specializes in Eldritch Blast.

I second Circle of Dream druid, they are so much fun.
I also have an idea for a Circle of Stars Druid, if I ever get to play instead of DM.
