I'm kinda new in the univers of Dungeons and Dragons and I came across I question I can't find an answer too.
If you use different woods would the item get different benefits?
I'm playing as a Bard and my group got some Dragon Wood, and I was wondering if I created an instrument out of it, would that instrument get any effects or benefits from that?
This is entirely up to your DM. I know for sure that if it were my game, I’d 100% want to work with a player to come up with some cool magic item for them to make out of a rare material they’ve acquired. But the exact nature of the item is something for you and your DM to work out. There’s nothing official about this (aside from the list of official magic items in the DMG).

There are several magic items that specify specific woods, for example imbued wood focus
