I am trying to figure out what a monster is from a game I am playing. I have tons of experience playing in previous editions, but this is my first foray into 5E. Just curious as I have never heard/seen something like this before...
The creature was a Large Black Goo (or Ooze)... when hit it sometimes split into smaller pieces... the big new thing, it could on attacks cause a Dex save or it would slither into all open orifices of its victim and possess them (zombie like). It would leave black dips in nose, eyes, etc...
Terrifying to face in a small cavern when it possessed the party's barbarian. lol. (We survived but was interesting.)
yeah, not looking for meta... having fun being surprised by creatures at this point.. having played so long, its refreshing.
And yes, when the barbarian was covered then it absorbed through his nose and mouth, then he attacked our rogue, WOW... terrifying, but as the Fighter I was right up in there.
Fun fun fun!

Hello all,

Thanks for any help, in advance.

Really just seems like a black pudding homebrewed for effect.
I was thinking the same.. scary as hell though.

Not your average goo.
Sounds like a 5e oblivax if u want meta knowledge, but it might just be a DM critter. Better to figure it out in play anyway.
Adult and Elder Oblex can make duplicates of people and pretend to be them, but they can not posses them.
This sounds a bit like one of the homebrewed Black Puddings that Mercer has thrown at Critical Role. But the possession mechanic is missing.
Sounds fascinating and awesome and horrifying though! Gonna take some inspiration and maybe homebrew my own!
