If Wizards of the Coast let us know that they're planning a new edition of Dungeons & Dragons, then there will likely be contractual negotiations, which will result in us being able to answer your question then. Prior to that time, I can state that we fully intend to continue to support the game and your investment in D&D Beyond.
Thank you, that really helps. my family and game group all love D&D Beyond and we hope to keep using the service for a long time. have a great new year!
I don't care if they get 6th edition, but I want to know that everything I've already purchased won't just disappear. at least with a physical copy, I know it won't be revoked because a new product comes out, with digital services it isn't so clear. even amazon can delete your purchased library if they feel like it, with no refunds or compensation.
In any event you'll get a large warning from them ahead of time, and I bet you'd be able to print the stuff you've purchased...
Is there an Update to this post since a few years ago? We know D&D ONE is now going to be an official thing with 'new books' that more sounds of a 5e upgrade than 'changed version' as stated with the backward compatibility mojo. The new 'books' are currently estimated for 2024. I have purchased the massive sourcebook bundle for 5e. I'm hoping and begging that there will be a free or At the Least a cheap switch-over or upgrade system in place. It would be devastating to spend hundreds upon hundreds for a bundle that only lasts a few years just to have to buy a whole new bundle.

I'd love an update to this question in 2023 after the WOtC scandals.
