I have had the luck to start playing D&D with a group that I would say is quite functional. So, I wanna know what is some of the red flags for a group - DM’s or players alike.
a player asking such a question on a random internet forum would be a major red flag to me.
It kinda signals that you're already preparing for trouble... and in my experience that is the kind of attitude that makes a person jump on other players if they don't play like "the internet" suggested.
If the group is fun so far, just enjoy playing with them.
When you actually have a problem with another player or DM, talk to them in person (or Skype in these times) and find a way to solve the problem.
Stay away from online echo-chambers that tell you to leave the dirty murderhoboes / powergamers / rule lawyers / that guys / whatever other fancy insult you can come up with. That's just childish. The people you play with are real people and nobody online can give you objective advice on personal conflicts, since nobody knows the whole story.

This is pretty subjective. What do you consider red flags when you interact with people in general? I mean... I could tell you that for me party members or the DM being openly racist or sexist is a pretty huge red flag. For somebody else, maybe not chipping in for snacks is the red flag. For some players, having other players that don't want to engage in role play and just want to run combat scenarios all the time is a red flag; for others the red flag is wanting to spend a bunch of time in social encounters.
It all comes down to you. Which makes me curious why you're asking, since you're saying you found a quite functional group. Are you content with this group and you're just curious? Or is there something going on in this group that makes you uncomfortable but you're not quite sure what it is or what to do about it?
I was mainly curious due to the fact that I’m not sure if me and this group will be able to continue playing. So I’m just wanting more information before trying to play with more people who I don’t know as I have never played with a group of strangers before.

Umh, this may sound a bit sarcastic, but...

First of all, thanks for the response.

It's hard to tell you what your red flags will be, as everyone has different preferences.
WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
